Partnership Promotes Railroad Photography and Art
The Center for Railroad Photography & Artand the National Railroad Hall of Fame recently began a creative partnership which will expand opportunities to present railroad art of national significance to the public.
For their first collaboration, the organizations plan an exhibit of photos taken by Hall of Fame Inductee John W. Barriger, III. Currently housed at the Barriger Library in St. Louis, photos selected from this collection will debut in Galesburg, Illinois, during the community’s annual Railroad Days Festival in June 2012. The exhibit will then be available for display at other appropriate venues around the country.
The Center, based in Madison, Wisconsin, is the United States’ foremost organization dedicated to interpretation of railroad art in American history and culture. The Center curates numerous exhibitions, holds an annual awards program, and publishes the Railroad Heritage journal. In addition, the Center sponsors an annual conference in conjunction with Lake Forest College. Called “Conversations about Photography,” next year’s forum will take place April 13th through 15th at the college in Lake Forest, Illinois, just north of Chicago.
