June 2016

Katherine Cowperthwait Budd Dickens, granddaughter of Inductee Edward G. Budd, participated in a ceremony honoring the life accomplishments of her grandfather on Saturday, June 25th.  The ceremony took place in the Alumni Room of Old Main on the campus of Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.

After the ceremony, Dickens shared her childhood memories of Budd, whose pioneering design of the first stainless steel train to run on American rails earned him the moniker “Father of the Streamliners.”  Dickens, of Effingham, Illinois, was joined by ten members of her extended family from as far away as California and Michigan.

Following the ceremony, which was free and open to the public, guests made their way to an evening of dinner and entertainment at The Great House.  Galesburg Mayor and NRHF Director Emeritus John Pritchard toasted Budd for his game changing contributions to the railroad industry and thanked Dickens and her family for participating in the celebration.
