Haverty's Welcomed at Depot
Retired Kansas City Southern CEO Mike Haverty and his wife Marlys were greeted by directors and staff of the National Railroad Hall of Fame as they passed through Galesburg March 21st in private railcars on Amtrak’s Southwest Chief.
The couple are supporters of the NRHF’s Engines of Freedom visitor attraction and are actively assisting project organizers with development efforts. Mr. Haverty is a member of the organization’s Rail Industry Advisory Group.
A fourth generation railroader, Haverty became a brakeman on the Missouri Pacific at age 19. He rose through the ranks to become CEO of the Kansas City Southern. In 2001, Railway Age Magazine named him Railroader of the Year.
