Once a male-dominated sector, women are an increasing presence in the field of transportation. Of Metra’s nearly 3,000 employees, 20 percent are women and the number is growing. Fully 26 percent of Metra’s new hires for 2018 are female. That’s not surprising considering the wide range of career opportunities the transit system affords across five major lines of business: maintenance, infrastructure, administration, operations, and technology.
